1454750 X-ray cassette CIBA-GEIGY AG 7 Aug 1974 [10 Aug 1973] 37952/73 Heading G2X An x-ray cassette comprises (a) a rectangular base member consisting of a flat base-plate which has on three sides upstanding walls having thereon inwardly directed horizontal flanges, (b) a cover member held in position on the base member consisting of a flat plate which has on three sides upstanding walls having thereon outwardly directed horizontal flanges, the dimensions being such that the flanges on the cover can slide under the flanges on the base-plate to hold the cover in the base member, (c) resilient means located between the base-plate of the base member and the horizontal flanges of the cover member for holding the cover member in the raised position so that the horizontal flanges on the cover member abut the horizontal flanges on the base member, (d) holding means located in the base member which co-operate with the cover member to cause the latter to be held with its flanges adjacent to the base-plate of the base member when the cover member is pushed down against the resilient means to enable the cassette to be closed, (e) means for releasing the cover member from the holding means located in the base member so that it can return to the raised position, (f) means for rendering light-tight the side of the cassette which is not covered by an upstanding wall on the base member and (g) means for retaining an x-ray film firmly in position in the cassette when the cassette is in the closed position. As shown the base-plate 2 has upstanding walls with inwardly directed horizontal flanges and inside these side walls are mounted shallow walls 7, 8, 9 and 10. Four leaf-springs 12 are between the two sets of walls. The locking device comprises two side arms 14 and 15, joined by bow spring 16, terminating in releasing members 17 and having locking members 18. A rivet 20 passes through slots 19 (between locking member 18 and releasing member 17) to secure the locking device to the base member. The cover member has flanges 24, which in the open position of the cassette are held to abut the flanges of side walls 4, 5, 6 by springs 12. When the cover 21 is pressed down locking members 18 pass through apertures 25. When travel of 21 is complete arms 14 and 15 move horizontally and locking members 18 slightly overlap flanges 24 and the notched ends of the spring 16 overlap the end corners of flange 24, closing the cassette. To open the cassette releasing members 17 are pressed to move side arms 14 and 15 horizontally, bringing locking members 18 into register with aperture 25 and the springs 12 then force the cover to the open position. The cassette is made light-tight by a member on the cover coacting with wall 10.
