Abstract

1454563 Feeding roller nips HERMANN BERSTORFF MASCHINENBAU GmbH 17 Jan 1974 [3 March 1973] 02341/74 Heading B5A A rubber or plastics material sheet is formed between opposed rolls 12, into the nip of which the material is delivered from an elongate extrusion nozzle defined between flexible die lips 6, 7, e.g. of sheet metal, which are urged by the pressure of the material into sealing contact with the roller surfaces. The lip surfaces contacting the rolls 12 are coated with polytetrafluoroethylene, and the extent of penetration of the lips into the nip is variable by displacement of the nozzle for the nozzle to project up to the narrowest portion of the nip. The apparatus enables the size of the material vortex into the nip entry to be regulated; prevents air being drawn into the nip, and reduces flexing of the rolls arising from the vortex.
