Abstract

1,231,306. Coating webs. GLANZSTOFF A.G. 5 Aug., 1969 [6 Aug., 1968], No. 39067/ 69. Heading D1L. In the passage of a web 12 between a backing roll 5 and a casting box 1 having a doctor 2 and containing liquid 15, liquid is fed into the box from a submerged device comprising an outer stationary pipe 3 with a longitudinal slit 4 and an inner rotary pipe 6 with at least one helical slot 7 thereby providing at least one feed inlet which makes a periodically recurring movement across the box and forms a feed stream at a constant acute angle with the direction of movement of the web. The helical slot may have two turns and the inner pipe may be fed from both ends (Fig. 1). The outer pipe may be 0.5-5 cm from the backing roll. The liquid may be a polyurethane gel. A static pressure above the liquid is obtained by means of inert gas supplied through inlet 10.
