Abstract

1454559 Coated products MARDON SON & HALL Ltd 13 Dec 1974 [8 Jan 1974] 00746/ 74 Heading B2E [Also in Division B8] A method of making a blank for a container from a sheet of carton board/aluminium foil laminate comprises the steps of embossing the layer of foil at future gluing areas 12 so as to provide a pattern of hills 14 and indentations 13, coating the foil with a heat-curable varnish but so as to leave unvarnished the indentations 13, heating the varnish to cure it, forming the container blank from the sheet and applying glue to the unvarnished indentation 13. The varnish is a catalyst curing, colour varnish based on melamine formaldehyde and the glue is a hot melt adhesive. The aluminium foil layer is printed before being embossed.
