Abstract

1454446 Laminating carbon to aluminium UNION CARBIDE CORP 11 March 1974 [12 March 1973 21 Feb 1974] 10667/74 Heading B5N [Also in Division C7] In Example 6, two carbon discs are joined by coating with Ta+Ni from an aqueous PVA solution (the PVA being removed by heating), followed by insertion of an Al foil between the discs and heating in vacuo at 1000‹ C. under pressure. The Al is bonded to the C via a layer of TaC. Other metals specified instead of Ta are Ti, Hf.
