Abstract

1454310 Injection apparatus ALZA CORP 23 April 1974 17698/74 Heading A5R [Also in Divisions C3 and Fl] Surgical injection apparatus comprises an elastic bladder which is filled through a valve with liquid under pressure and which discharges liquid through the valve due to the elasticity of its walls, the bladder being made of polybutadiene, polyisoprene, butyl rubber, chlorobutyl rubber or cross-linked polyurethane and having a deflated length not less than 10 times its deflated inside diameter and walls of a thickness from 0.1 to 1 times its deflated inside diameter. The elastic properties of the material used for the bladder are specified in the claims. The bladder 84 is disposed in a plastics housing 80 slidable in a plastics frame 81 which may be secured to the body. The open end of the bladder is sealed by a septum 94 which for use is penetrated by a hollow needle 94 for communication with the patient through a filter 97, a flow regulator 101, consisting of a valve or constriction, and a fitting 104 for coupling to an injection needle. The other end of the bladder carries a slide 89 bearing a mark 91 which indicates the degree of expansion of the bladder against a scale on the bladder housing 80.
