Abstract

1454272 Monitoring airport runway lighting DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 8 July 1974 [10 July 1973] 32904/73 Heading G1A Apparatus for monitoring airport runway lights comprises a plurality of detectors 1 each responsive to light incident from essentially one direction, means 6 for detecting when the apparatus passes a light fitting, means 10, 8, 12 to determine when the apparatus has travelled a predetermined distance from it and connected to means 5, recording the outputs from detectors 1 at that time. Detectors 1 each in a narrow black painted box are aligned to receive light from ground level 15 m behind the apparatus. Six panel meters 3 are in three-by-two array in light excluding box 4. Wheel 10 provides pulses to counter 8 giving an output corresponding to distance travelled. At 15 metres, selector 12 provides a signal causing camera 15 to photograph meters 3. Inductive pick-up loop 6 and circuit 7 produce a pulse on passing a light fitting which resets counter 8, provided that the distance indicated to inhibitor 9 by counter 8 is greater than the distance set on selector 11. More than one vertical array of detectors 1 can be used.
