PURPOSE:To precisely measure the outer diameter of an extrudate using a television camera by which measurement is simple and whose maintenance and control are simple, by televising the horizontally placed extrudate, and converting the video signal as light and dark information into the outer diameter of the extrudate. CONSTITUTION:The extrudate 1 that is horizontally placed in front of a light source 3 is televised by the television camera 2, the video signal outputted from the camera 2 is sent as a photoelectric signal to a photoelectric signal circuit 4, based on a vertical synchronous signal of the video signal the measurable range is made into a pulse signal at every cycle by a measuring range setting circuit 7, a measuring position setting circuit 8 outputs a timing pulse signal 9 having a certain interval and a prescrbed width based on the horizontal synchronous signal of the video signal, these signals are inputted into a measuring pulse signal generating circuit 11 so that their AND logic values are converted into measuring pulse signals, and the number of the measuring pulse signals are converted into the value of the outer diameter of the extrudate 1 by a frequency dividing circuit 12.
