Abstract

1454204 Lubricants &c EXXON RESEARCH & ENG CO 31 May 1974 [12 June 1973] 24302/74 Heading C5F A composition suitable for application to ferrous metals to protect them from rust comprises a mineral oil and as sole rust protective additive from 1 to 30% by weight of a mixture of salts derived from a metal of Group II (A or B) and from a mixture of carboxylic acids comprising: 1 to 20% by weight saturated aliphatic acids from C 6 to C 15 , 1 to 50% by weight saturated aliphatic acids from C 16 to C 20 , 10 to 90% by weight unsaturated aliphatic acids from C 16 to C 20 and 1 to 50% resin acids. A preferred acid mixture is that known as tall oil. The composition may also contain a V-I improver, e.g. paraffin wax, petrolatum or an olefinic polymer.
