Abstract

1453999 Flexible hose; flanged joint EDDELBUTTEL & SCHNEIDER 15 May 1974 [22 May 1973] 21549/74 Heading F2G A rubber flange 3 constructed integrally with a rubber hose 1, reinforced by the layers of armouring, e.g. textile fabric or woven metal, of the hose and provided with through-holes 9 has thin annular laminae 4, preferably of metal, embedded in it to which armouring layers 2 are attached. One side of each layer 2 is secured, e.g. by gluing, vulcanizing or welding to laminae 4 so that there are two layers of armouring between each pair of laminae, the assembly of laminae and armouring layers being embedded in rubber. Lamina 6 adjacent to surface 5 of flange 3 acts as a support plate and has a projection 7 which reinforces the internal edge of the flange. When flange 3 is connected to the flange of an adjacent pipe by bolts located in holes 9 the compressive forces generated by the bolts are evenly distributed by means of a rear, metal, backing flange 10 vulcanized to flange 3 and act on lamina 6 so that the inner part of flange 3 is prevented from lifting away from the adjacent flange. Leakage between adjacent flanges is prevented by continuous annular rings 8 on face 5 of flange 3. Laminae 4 and 6 may each be split or may each consist of a number of elements to facilitate their incorporation into the flange.
