Abstract
1453874 Printing plates; etching SWISS ALUMINIUM Ltd 1 Feb 1974 [2 Feb 1973] 04749/74 Headings B6C and B6J [Also in Division C7] Printing plates, e.g. for relief printing or photogravure, are produced by annealing an Al/Zn alloy which has a zinc content of 0À2-10% Zn (by wt.), for 10-20 hours at 500-600‹ C., hotrolling, annealing at 250-450‹ C., cold-rolling, applying a partial coating of an acid-resistant material in selected places, and etching the uncoated parts with 5-30% aqueous hydrochloric acid. The alloy may be cooled to 400-450‹ C. before hot-rolling. A further cold-rolling step may be interposed between the hot-rolling and the second annealing. The plate produced has sides to the etched portions which form an angle of 70-75 degrees with the plate surface.
