Abstract
1358213 Aqueous coating compositions TELEFLEX Inc 28 July 1972 [6 Aug 1971] 35397/72 Heading C4A A coating composition for protecting ferrous metals from corrosion consists of a dispersion of 10-2000 g. of solid particles (preferably having a grain size less than 325 (Tyler)), at least a portion of which is an alloy containing at least 3 wt. per cent Al and at least 3 wt. per cent Mg, per litre of an aqueous acidic solution comprising at least 1 mole per litre dissolved phosphate, at least 0À3 mole per litre dissolved chromate plus molybdate and at least 0À5 mole per litre dissolved metal. The composition is applied to sheet metal and to compressor blades and cured by heating, e.g. to 375-800 F. to form a water insoluble coating. The dispersion can also comprise particles such as aluminium powder, talc, zinc, silica, alumina, or chromia. The phosphate can be included in the solution as phosphoric acid, a metal salt containing PO 4 , HPO 4 and/or H 2 PO 4 ions, or the meta or pyro acid. The chromate can be included as chromic acid, the anhydride CrO 3 , or a chromate or dichromate salt. The molybdate can be included as molybdic acid, the anhydride MoO 3 or a molybdate salt. The metal can be included as phosphate, molybdate or chromate salts or as oxides, hydroxides or carbonates. The solution generally has a pH of 1À6 to 2À7.
