Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the occurrence of an anodic oxidation pattern on an Al alloy for rolling which crystallizes an Al-Fe intermetallic compound in an ingot of the alloy by adjusting the grain size of a layer under the surface coarse cell layer of the ingot to a specified value or below.
CONSTITUTION: 0.001W0.1wt% Ti and 0.0002W0.002wt% B are added to a molten Al alloy for rolling which crystallizes an Al-Fe intermetallic compound in an ingot of the alloy to adjust the grain size of a layer under the surface coarse cell layer of the ingot to ≤120μ. Thus, the distance from the ingot surface to fir dendrite is made larger, so the dendrite is not exposed to the surface by rolling to prevent the occurrence of an anodic oxidation pattern even if the ingot is rolled and anodically oxidized.
