Abstract
1453619 Work supports in vacuum furnaces STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd 20 Dec 1973 59170/73 Heading F4B [Also in Division C7] Tantalum capacitor anodes or other powder metal workpieces are sintered in a furnace having uneven temperature gradient around its circumference at a pressure below atmospheric, and a carrier for the workpieces is rotated about a vertical axis for at least part of the sintering period to eliminate the effect of the temperature gradient. A furnace comprises a easing 8 connected to an evacuating pump, and is heated by electric elements 10 suspended from supports 11 secured to the casing and surrounded by radiation shields 13, 14, 15. A work carrier 16 is carried by a rod 20 passing through a charging lock 17 and carrying a double-acting piston 19 within a cylinder 21. The upper end of the rod carries a gear-wheel 21 so that the rod and work carrier may be rotated by a motor 24. A valve 9 shuts the furnace off from the lock chamber 17 when the work carrier is raised.
