Abstract
1453577 Incinerators C E & E BRULE Inc 19 March 1975 [1 April 1974] 11366/75 Addition to 1444420 Heading F4B In a process for the thermal destruction of gaseous liquid and/or solid chemical wastes, air is preheated in a jacket 21 surrounding a cylindrical combustion chamber 11 and then passed with the chamber through angled nozzles 15 to form a swirling mass moving in a spiral towards the exhaust end of the chamber, liquid fuel being introduced through central nozzle 17 or gaseous fuel through the ring of nozzles 18, the chemical waste being introduced through the same nozzles according to whether it is a slurry (or liquid) or a gas, the chemical waste being destroyed by oxidation without burning. The waste may be sewage sludge. The combustion gases pass through a conduit 33, which may contain an arrangement to extract useful heat, to a scrubber 46 using jets of water. Dust is removed by passing the gas under a partition 42 dipping into a body of water which removes soluble gases. The gas then rises in chamber 47 against the direction of a further spray from nozzles 61. In section 48 the gas passes through a de-mister and is blown by blower 52 up the stack 54. In an emergency, shutter 34 may be closed and shutter 31 opened to discharge the gases straight up chimney 30.
