Abstract
1452798 Laminates ROHM & HAAS CO 13 March 1974 [2 April 1973] 11219/74 Heading B5N [Also in Division A4] A laminated textile material, suitable for use in the production of pillows, mattresses, sleeping bags and cushions, comprises a layer of a flammable filling material, e.g. cotton wadding, a layer of woven fabric, e.g. ticking, superimposed over the layer of filling material and forming a cover thereover, the layer of woven fabric being secured to the filling layer at intervals, a layer of soft, flexible flame resistant foam, e.g. polyurethane foam having an uncompressed thickness of 0À1-1À0 inch positioned between the filling and the fabric, the foam layer being compressed between the filling and the fabric layer in those regions where the two are joined, and a heat-conducting metal or metal-containing layer over- or under-lying the foam layer at least in those areas where the fabric and filling are joined and the foam is compressed. The metal coating, which may have a thickness of ¢-6 mils., may be aluminium, nickel, silver, bismuth, antimony, tin, gold, stainless steel, brass, bronze, solder or Wood's metal. The metal may be applied by chemical or electroplating, sputtering or vacuum metallizing, or may be present in the form of a foam or crushed foam or metal powder bonded together with an organic binder. The binder may be a copolymer of vinyl or vinylidene chloride with an acrylic acid ester of a C 1-18 alcohol or methacrylic acid ester of a C 5-18 alcohol, which may also contain styrene, vinyl toluene, acrylonitrile or vinyl acetate, and small amounts of acrylic, methacrylic or itaconic acid. The layers may be secured together by sewing.
