Abstract

A composite fabric which combines thermal insulation with permeability to air and impermeability to water includes a layer of conventional cloth made from natural (cotton) or synthetic (nylon) fibres, a web of hydrophobic synthetic fibres, pref. of expanded PTFE, and at least one membrane or film aluminised on one face. The layers are bonded together by closely spaced spots of adhesive applied by a multipoint roller, a fine spray or a layer of fine fabric which is precoated with adhesive but still porous or semi permeable. For mfr. of garments which are waterproof, warm, sufficiently ventilated to minimise internal condensation and not so bulky as to restrict movement or appear cumbersome for qloves, gaitors, leggings etc. for motoring, yachtinq, site work etc. Eliminates need for different superimposed garments to be warm, weatherproof and comfortable.
