Abstract

1452609 Hydraulic control circuits SPERRY RAND Ltd 29 April 1974 [15 May 1973] 22950/73 Heading F1P [Also in Division F2] In the circuit shown, Fig.1, in which a valve 1 controls supply and exhaust of hydraulic liquid to and from a load 2, a compensator, connected between the service ports 6, 7 of the valve and the load, restricts the flow in the service lines so as to maintain a constant pressure difference between the supply pressure and the pressure at the service port supplying the load. In operation, a spring 23 in the compensator is set so as to correspond to the pressure to be dropped across the valve 1, e.g. 125 lbs. per sq.in. If the valve 1 is moved to the left in Fig.1, pilot pressure in the valve also operates a shuttle valve 22 connecting the service port 6 to the end space of the compensator 13 where it acts on the spool 18 in addition to the spring 23 so as to oppose the supply pressure which acts on the other end 21 of the spool. When the load starts to move and if the pressure at the service port 6 falls, the supply pressure overcomes these combined pressures, moves the spool 18 to the left causing lands 19, 20 to close ports 14, 15 and restricting the flow so that the predetermined pressure drop is maintained at the port 6. Thus, the rate of movement of the load is set by valve 1 independently of the magnitude of the load. If pressure at the service port 6 rises, the spool 18 moves to the right to maintain the pressure drop. If the load tends to over-run pressure in port 6 drops causing the compensator to close restricting the flow in both service lines so that no cavitation occurs. The pressure from a ball-shuttle valve 24 may be carried through a line 25 to the power unit where it may control an off-loading valve or a swash plate pump. Fig.2 shows how a polarity sensing valve 30 may be used to provide pilot pressures to the shuttle valve 22. Figs.3-10 (not shown), illustrate the construction of a valve block suitable for the circuit described.
