Abstract
1361680 Fluid-pressure servomotor systems SPERRY RAND Ltd 21 July 1972 [23 July 1971 10 May 1972] 34557/71 and 21725/72 Addition to 1335041 Heading G3P [Also in Division F1] An actuator 116, Fig. 1, is controlled by a main control valve 80 and a pilot valve 42 which controls the fluid-pressure for operating the valve 80. A motor 40 applies a first force proportional to an electrical signal to the spool 48 of the pilot valve, and a shuttle valve 140, which is responsive to the pressures in the actuator 116, applies an opposing force to the spool 48. In addition the main valve 80 is controlled by a second pilot valve 12 which is itself controlled by an electrical input to a motor 11 and an opposing signal from a flow-sensing device 322. The two pilot valves are in series and either one may be set to over-ride the other. With the piston 120 moving to the right it may happen that the pressure P 1 may exceed the pressure P 2 . Under these conditions the shuttle valve 140 would cause the main valve to close further thus increasing the difference between P 1 and P 2 . Fig. 8 shows a modified circuit which overcomes this. In this circuit shuttle valve 440 is responsive to the pressure difference across the main valve 80 rather than across the actuator 116. Since the pressure in line 156 leading to the chamber 46 is not necessarily the higher of the two pressures P 1 , P 2 , the pressure in this line is no longer suitable for controlling a variable volume pump. The pump control line 145 is therefore connected via an auxiliary shuttle valve 460 to whichever of the ports 104, 106 of the valve 80 is at the higher pressure.
