Abstract

1452578 Slip casting FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 25 Oct 1974 [14 Nov 1973] 46208/74 Heading B5A [Also in Division C1] Silicon nitride articles having a selected density from 2À1 to 3À18 g./c.c. are prepared by dispersing 70 to 80 wt. per cent of Si powder having a particle size distribution falling within the area bounded by the curves in the figure with 30 to 20 wt. per cent of a vehicle, which includes a suspending agent, adjusting the pH of the suspension to yield the desired suspension viscosity which is inversely proportional to the required density of the Si 3 N 4 article, slip casting the Si powder suspension and nitriding the Si article. The vehicle used may be water and the suspending agent may be monoethanolamine.
