Abstract
1396916 Silicon nitride and silicon oxynitride compositions ANNAWERK GmbH 4 Oct 1972 [5 Oct 1971] 45731/72 Heading C1A Mouldings which contain silicon nitride and/or silicon oxynitride are prepared by reacting a silicon halide, e.g. SiCl 4 or SiBr 4 with an excess of NH 3 , removing the ammonium halide produced, e.g. by heating the powder produced in an inert atmosphere at up to 1100‹ C., mixing the remaining powder with up to 20% by weight of an alkaline earth oxide, e.g. MgO and pressing the mixture at temperatures between 1300‹ and 1800‹ C. at pressures greater than 200 hp./sq. inch. Preferably 5 to 8% by weight MgO is used.
