Abstract

1452220 Sun visors HAPPICH GmbH Gebr 1 Feb 1974 [3 Feb 1973] 04850/74 Heading B7J A sun visor assembly for a motor vehicle comprises a visor body (not shown) secured to a mounting member 1 which is pivotable about a shaft 2, the member 1 as shown in Figs. 1 and 2 carrying a generally U-shaped spring member 3 of which the arms 8 engage and resiliently grip a portion of the shaft 5 of non-circular crosssection, i.e. having a pair of opposed flats 7, so that co-operation of the spring member 3 with the flats 7 defines stable positions into which the visor body can be pivoted and towards which positions the body is biased when it is approaching one of them. The arms 8 are extended to encircle the mounting member 1, which is also U-shaped in this embodiment, and the free ends of the arms are secured by a rivet 9. Alternative means for retaining the spring member 3 in position on the member 1 are described with reference to Figs. 3-7 (not shown), in the last of which the mounting member (1a) is an injection moulded plastics body. In Fig. 8, the mounting member 1b is again a plastics moulding but has its spring portion 3a for gripping the shaft formed integrally therewith. In all forms, the mounting member may receive and hold members 4 which are reinforcing inserts in the visor body. When the assembly is mounted in a vehicle, the operative position is defined by one stable position in which the arms 8 engage the flats 7, and the inoperative position may be either the other stable position obtained by 180 degree rotation, or may be a position close to this other stable position so that the body is urged towards the other stable position by the spring member or portion but is prevented from reaching it by contact with the vehicle roof.
