Abstract
1452040 Fitting stranded cables INDUSTRIE PIRELLI SpA 20 May 1975 [28 May 1974] 21542/75 Headings D1L and DIP An unsheathed electric cable core, comprising a number of insulated conductors is fully fitted with an electrically insulating water-impervious medium by passing continuously the cable core longitudinally through a vessel containing the medium in a non-viscous liquid state, the conductors passing into the vessel through a common inlet aperture are not stranded together and are guided apart from each other while passing through the medium and are then brought together to form a cable core whilst still passing through the medium, the filled core is then passed from the vessel through an outlet aperture and the core coded so that the medium will not drain from the core. The medium is preferably continuously circulated in the vessel under pressure and in a direction opposite to the passage of the conductors. The stranding of the conductors can be carried out by using a fixed-axis paying-off system for the conductors and rotating axis collecting drum for the core or by a rotating axis paying-off system and fixed-axis collecting drum.
