Abstract

1452007 Moulding composite tube PONT-A-MOUSSON SA 9 April 1974 [13 April 1973] 15757/74 Heading B5A [Also in Division F2] A hose T comprises an extruded inner tube of cross-linked polyolefin around which is applied a sheath 6a of plastics foam, e.g. by coating a tube with adhesive and applying a band 6 of foam thereto. Cross-linking agent is mixed at high pressure with polyethylene in an extruder 1 while preventing cross-linking taking place until the tube 2 is formed. The extruded tube 2 is drawn off and calibrated by a device 2 and fed directly or after coiling and storage over rollers 8, 9 together with a band 6 of closed cell polyethylene foam supplied from a roll 5. An epoxy adhesive is applied by a gun 14 and the solvent in the adhesive is evaporated by a heater 11. The foam band is wrapped around the tube 2 by a guide passageway 16 and the sheathed tube is drawn off through ceramic rings 18 by a rubber-faced drum 20.
