Abstract

A flexible and collapsible container is produced by assembling segments 2 of a former 1 using annular clamps 3, 4, applying a coating of thermoplastic synthetic resin material whilst rotating the former, winding a layer of yarn longitudinally obliquely from a portion of the radially outer edge of one clamp to the opposite portion of the other clamp, forming a second winding spaced from the first, continuing winding to build up a plurality of layers (Fig. 8), applying another coating of thermoplastic synthetic resin material, heating to integrate the two thermoplastic layers and removing the former by dividing it into its segments 2. A reinforcing winding of yarn may be applied in the equatorial region (Fig. 12). The yarn may be of nylon, glass or vinylon fibre and may be coated with an adhesive such as vinyl chloride paste or acrylic resin. The former may be coated with a release agent, e.g. silicone, before coating with the thermoplastic material, which may be vinyl chloride, acrylic or urethane resin, nylon, or polyethylene. The edge 12 of the container mouth may be clamped between the flange 15 of a flanged mouthpiece 14 and an annular oval-section pipe 11 by means of bolts 16, and a closure 13 meshing with the mouthpiece 14 may be provided (Fig. 10).
