Abstract

One or more plastic film webs are spirally wound about an object to be wrapped, in overlapping relationship and the overlapping edges of the film(s) are sealed together. Heat-shrinkable and heat-sealable film may be used which is heated after wrapping. Alternatively non-shrink film may be used which is wound under tension. Sealing may be by heat-sealing or by adhesive bonding. The process avoids the technical limitations imposed by the use of tubular films for wrapping large or irregularly shaped objects. Tearing of the film with consequent loss of air or water-proofness is avoided. The film can be of e.g. polyethylene, PVC polypropylene.
