Abstract

1451325 Dispensing liquids O A BRAZIER 14 Jan 1974 [16 Jan 1973] 2282/73 Heading B8N [Also in Division F1] Apparatus for dispensing controlled quantities of liquids, e.g. adhesive, comprises a conduit 15 with a liquid inlet at one end and an open discharge outlet 17, Fig. 1, at the other, at least a portion of the conduit being constituted by a flexible-walled tube, a valve 20 for opening and closing the conduit, a device 30 for nipping together the flexible walls in a flexible walled zone of the tube and advancing the nipped zone towards the outlet, a common operating member 3 for actuating the valve and the nipping device, and a lost motion connection between the operating member and the nipping device. The arrangement is such that movement of the operating member in one direction causes the tube to be nipped, then opens the valve and advances the nipped zone, and movement of the member in the reverse direction allows reclosure of the valve and then causes the nipping device to release the nip and retract. In Fig. 1 the nipping device is a roller 31 urged against the tube 15 by a ramp '32 of a slider 30 when the latter is moved upwardly, and the valve includes a spring loaded lever 20. The operating member is a trigger 3 having a shoulder 25 for engagement with a cam 22 on lever 20 to open the valve, and lugs 6 and 8 for engagement with the slider 30 to operate the nipping device. The trigger engages an adjustable stop 12 which controls the amount of liquid dispensed. In Fig. 4 the valve is a roller 121 carried by a spring 120 and the nipping device is as in Fig. 1. The operating member is a slider having a shoulder for engaging the roller 121 and a longitudinal slot which receives with lost motion a lug 127 on the member 130. In an alternative construction the nipping device may be a bellcrank lever carrying a nipping roller at one end, having its other end loosely connected to a slider, and having its pivot point capable of sliding motion.
