Abstract

1450913 Core drilling concrete pipes J C ROSSBOROUGH 29 Aug 1973 40608/73 Heading B3C [Also in Divisions E1 and F2] A frame supporting a core-drill 112 for drilling a hole in the side of a manhole riser (see Division E1) 41 comprises: (a) two clamps 85 having roller 86 engaging the top of the riser and clamp jaws 87, 88 for securing it thereto; (b) two vertically depending posts 83, 84 coarsely vertically adjustable relative to the clamps by means of a rack 95 and pinion 94 operable by a handle 93; (c) a carriage 98 having a fine vertical adjustment comprising sleeves 99, 101 adjustable on posts 83, 84 by means of a rack and pinion; (d) a track 107 horizontally adjustable on the carriage in a direction towards either of posts 83, 84 by means of a rack 110 and pinion 109; (e) a core-drill assembly 111 including a drill 112 movable on tracks 107 towards the manhole 41 by means of a rack 118 and pinion 117. The drills motor is hydraulically or pneumatically driven and water jets are supplied to the drill. For an alternative way of drilling the hole, the manhole is mounted on a turntable, Figs. 4 and 6 (not shown), and the drill is vertically adjustable on vertical posts. The drill may also be rotatable about a vertical axis to present core drills of different diameter to the manhole.
