1450339 Supersensitized silver halide emulsion FUJI PHOTO FILM CO Ltd 24 July 1974 [24 July 1973] 32774/74 Heading G2C The invention comprises a silver halide photographic emulsion containing in supersensitizing amounts a dye represented by the general Formula (I) and a dye represented by the general Formula II wherein Z<SP>1</SP> and Z<SP>2</SP> each represents the atoms necessary to complete a benzoxozole or naphthoxazole ring, each of which rings may be further substituted; each of R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>4</SP> is an optionally substituted alkyl group or an allyl group; R<SP>2</SP> is an optionally substituted alkyl or allyl group; R<SP>5</SP> is anything that R<SP>2</SP> may be or a monocyclic aryl group; R<SP>3</SP> is an unsubstituted alkyl group, a hydroxyalkyl group or a carboxyalkyl group; R<SP>6</SP> is an optionally substituted alkoxycarbonylalkyl group, a hydroxyalkoxyalkyl group, an acetoxyalkoxyalkyl group, an N-(N,N-dialkylaminoalkyl) carbamoylalkyl group, an N-(N,N,N-trialkylammonium) carbamoylalkyl group or an N,N,N- trialkylammoniumalkyl group; xis an anion; and n is 1 when R<SP>6</SP> is a group containing a quaternized nitrogen atom and the compound is not an internal salt, or O in any other case. Halogen, hydroxy, -CF 3 , alkyl, alkoxy, alkoxycarbonyl, acyl and aryl are specified as substituents for the benzoxazole or naphthoxazole ring. A further supersensitizing effect is obtained when the emulsion contains an additional sensitizing dye, such as an apomerocyanine of Formula A [ Formula A-Sheet II of drawings]
