Abstract
1449971 Telescopic actuators H JUNGHEINRICH & CO MASCHINENFABRIK 4 March 1974 [17 April 1973] 9648/74 Heading F1D To expand the double-acting telescopic actuator shown in Fig. 1 pressure fluid is admitted through an inlet 4 to push out piston 6 and cylinder 5 relative to cylinder 1. This causes fluid to be displaced by piston 6 from a chamber 10 through ports 36 into a chamber 35, thus pushing out piston 21 and piston-rod 20. Fluid displaced by the piston 21 from a chamber 26 flows out through ports 34, the interior 31 of the piston-rod 30 and a port 29. Contraction of the actuator is effected by admitting fluid through the port 29 and exhausting through the port 4. Chambers 10 and 35 contain a constant volume of fluid, any losses being made up through a spring-loaded check-valve 16. Venting devices 32, 33 allow the escape of air during initial charging of the actuator. This arrangement ensures that all sections of the actuator expand simultaneously. Fig. 2 shows an embodiment in which fluid admitted through a port 4' acts on pistons 6', 21', to move them to the left and fluid is exhausted from chambers 10' and 26' through a port 29' via ports 43, 44, 34'.
