Abstract

1449930 Television MACHLETT LABORATORIES Inc 25 Feb 1974 [5 March 1973] 8488/74 Heading H4F [Also in Divisions G2 and H1] A radiographic intensifier system includes an image intensifier tube and a control circuit for the tube focusing means having two settings for focusing the image on to larger or smaller portions of the screen, and a photo-film holder movably mounted on the outside of the tube for movement between a first position in which the film in the holder is in front of the faceplate and a second position in which a film in the holder is not in front of the faceplate and may be viewed directly (e.g. by a TV camera tube 90). The expanded image provides increased resolution. Dimensions, voltages, phosphor and photocathode materials are given. Tube 14 includes skirt 36 shaping the field and shielding sleeve 18-cylinder 20 joint, metallization 40, grids 44 and 54 in the dielectric supports 52, 64, decelerators 66 and 72, faceplate 80 preferably with planar inner and outer surfaces and side by side fibres, phosphor layer 82 preferably directed on the inner side of plate 80 and reflector layer 84 (e.g. Al). The film holder (also Figs. 6 and 7, not shown) has on Al frame 100 with a slot for receiving cassette (118) with slidable cover (122) and film (120). Cassette (118) is moved (e.g. by an electrical mechanism) on tracks 114, 116 and cover (122) may be moved by electronically operated arm (124), while solenoids (126) with core ends press the film against the faceplate, against the action of springs (128). Figs. 2 and 3 (not shown) indicate typical potentials for the two modes and electrode 66 more negative than grid 72 focuses the outer image portions in the same plane as the central portions. Tube 14 also includes cathode sleeve 18 of KOVAR (Trade Mark), terminal flange 19, exhaust tubulation 21, KOVAR anode sleeve 22 with terminal flange 23, sleeve 24 welded to terminal 19 and scaled to membrane faceplate 26 supporting phosphor layer 28 and photocathode 30 with optical barrier film 32 (e.g. aluminium oxide).
