Abstract

1449321 Vehicle covers L D HRYTZAK and C J FORWARD 17 Jan 1974 02296/74 Heading B7J A sun shield for screening an automobile body comprises a framework formed of telescopic rods 1, 2, 3, 6 and 7 and hinged rods 4, 5 which are extensions from the ends of the rod 3, a flexible screening material 8 detachably secured to the rods by means of lockable rings (not shown), legs 13 at the ends of the rods 2, 3 for spacing the framework from the roof of an automobile, and a plurality of straps (not shown) attached at suitable positions to the rods and each provided with a hook for attachment to the rain gutters of the automobile. The rods 2, 3 are secured to the rod 1 which in use extends lengthwise centrally of the roof and the rods 6, 7, are secured to the rods 4, 5, which in use hang as shown above the windshield and rear window. Side screens 11 are connected to the longitudinal edges of the screen 8 and are provided with apertures 12 so that in use air can circulate between the screen 8 and the roof. To prevent theft of the shield, a strap 9 is connected to one of the rods 4, 5 and terminates in a ball 10 so that when the strip is inserted in the automobile boot or under its bonnet and the boot or bonnet is locked, the ball prevents removal of the end of the strip therefrom. Each leg 13 comprises a portion 17 urged by a spring 16 outwardly of a housing 14. When the screen 8 is removed from the framework and the latter is retracted and folded the legs can be retained within the housings by latches 19.
