Abstract

1300295 Load covering and securing on vehicles WHITBREAD & CO Ltd 14 Sept 1971 [28 Sept 1970] 46070/70 Heading B7L A road vehicle (e.g. semi-trailer 10) comprising a body having a headboard 14 and a flooring 12 is provided with a sheeting 18, attachable to the headboard, for covering and securing a load to the body, the sheeting 18 having first members 30 spaced longitudinally along it and the body having second members 36 connected to it by attachment means which allow the second members to be moved longitudinally of the body to bring the first and second members into vertical alignment, the first and second members being capable of being connected together and released and being completely separable when released. The attachment means are provided by a series of rods 38 secured longitudinally along the body and the second members 36 comprising a length of webbing are each looped around its respective rod to permit said longitudinal movement. The two members 30, 36 are connected together by a quick-release tongue and buckle arrangement. The sheeting is attached to the headboard by clamping it between the top edge of the headboard and a channel shaped member 22, L-shaped rods 28 being provided to support the sheeting when not in use. Spring tensioned retractable lines 44 are provided on the vehicle to secure the free ends of second members 36 when not in use. A second tailboard 16 and sheeting 20 identical to tailboard 14 and sheeting 18 may be provided on the chassis. Cords 46 and 50 are provided on the sheeting for securing the latter in use, to hooks (not shown) on the body, to reduce or prevent billowing of the sheeting.
