Abstract

1449291 Microwave circulators SIEMENS AG 30 Aug 1973 [4 Sept 1972] 40818/73 Heading H1W A microwave strip line circulator comprises at least three strip lines 4 having a common junction 3 adjacent which is arranged at least one ferrite plate 1 subjected to a steady magnetic field and surrounded by a ring 2 of dielectric material, each of the lines 4 having inner and outer radial portions with an intermediate portion which is directed non-radially, e.g. along a circle concentric with the ring 2 and for a strip of width w the distance of an edge of the strip to either the ferrite plate or the periphery of the dielectric ring should be at least w/2 as shown. The overall dimensions of the circulator are reduced by this arrangement especially at lower frequencies. The dielectric ring 2 preferably has a relative dielectric constant of at least 2À5. The portion of the strip within the dielectric acts as an impedancetransforming quarter-wavelength line.
