Processes for reduction of grain.-Flour milling machinery is arranged in a vertical column through which the grain and flour pass downwardly by a single path through break rolls, sieves. and reduction rolls, bran reels being situated between the two sets of rolls. From each set of break-rolls 8, 11, the material falls on a vibrating sieve 10, through the finer mesh of which the flour passes to a pan 15 and shoot 20 leading to the bolting-reels 22. The middlings falling through the coarser section of the sieve 10. passes by a shoot 16 to the first reduction rolls 18, and the tails pass direct to the next break. From the last sieve 10 the tails are delivered to the bran reels 17. The flour from the reduction rolls 18 is separated by sieves 23 and taken by a shoot 24 to the bolting-reels 22. An adjustable air exhaust may be applied above each separating-sieve, through which air is drawn, carrying away ergot, smut, fine fibre. and dust to the channels 28 and flue 27.
