Abstract

Processes for reduction of grain.-A sifting and separating apparatus which may be combined with a self-contained system of two or more break or reduction roll sets comprises reciprocating sieves 5 through which the flour, dunst, and fine middlings fall to a spout 7, and the coarse middlings and semolina to a spout 10, and a fan 30 which produces a circulating current of air regulated by a valve 39. The current through the finer portion 5 of the sieve is restricted by the smallness of the apertures 32 so that only the lightest particles are removed and carried through passages 33, 35, mounted on the sieve, to a depositing chamber 37, The blast through the coarser portion 8 of the sieve is more intense and carries heavier particles up through rectangular passages in the plate o, and deposits them in receivers occupying the intermediate portions of the plate as described in Specification 876/04. Thence these particles are taken through passages 40, 41 to a conveyer 42 and a valved outlet at the side of the machine. The similar sieves following other breaks may be connected to the sieve 5, and a single fan may be employed to operate all the separators.
