Abstract

1449036 Laminated pipe wrappings AUTOMATION INDUSTRIES Inc 16 Oct 1973 [18 Dec 1972] 48149/73 Heading B5N [Also in Division F2] A flexible wrapper for a warm air duct consists of one layer of stretchable material proof against vapour, reinforced by material which allows stretching in at least one direction. The reinforcement protects the wrapper against tearing &c. In one form, a plastics film of, e.g. P.V.C., polyester, C.P.E., 55, Fig. 3, is reinforced by two sets of threads 65A, 65B at right angles, bonded or laminated to the film. The threads 65A, 65B may be individually applied or may be in the form of a fabric. The arrangement of the threads 65A, 65B permits stretching both lengthwise and transversely of the strip of film. In a modification, a third set of threads (71R), Fig. 4 (not shown), extends lengthwise of the film, to prevent lengthwise stretching while permitting transverse stretching, as before. Alternatively, the third set of threads (71A) may be slightly stretchable, to allow limited lengthwise stretching. The threads 65A &c. may be single filaments or twisted yarns. In another form, only threads (51C), Fig. 5 (not shown), extending lengthwise of the film, are provided. Five other alternative forms, Fig. 6, each have a fabric with transverse and longitudinal threads laminated to a plastics film. Either a crimped &c. yarn set 77, 79, 81, 83, which may be twisted, or a stretchable yarn 85, arranged transversely of the film, allow stretching in that direction. In a final form, the plastics film is laminated to a non-woven reinforcement, Fig. 7 (not shown), e.g. of polyester, polypropylene or polyolefin, having similar stretch properties.
