Abstract
1447733 Rolling mills ACHENBACH-BUSCHHUTTEN GmbH 3 April 1974 [16 Aug 1973] 14758/74 Heading B3M [Also in Division F2] The universally jointed drive spindles 5 and 6 of a rolling mill, which couple the mill rolls 1 and 2 with the shafts 3 and 4 of a gear assembly K, are housed in a casing 7 within which a cooling and lubricating fluid is circulated. The casing is supported on a reservoir 8 and is provided with nozzles 14 supplied from a pump 9. Each spindle 5 or 6 has at either end a universal joint formed by a toothed boss 20, Fig. 2, engaging within an internally toothed sleeve 17. The sleeve forms part of a coupling 1a or 2a, and is provided with a tubular extension 21. The two adjacent extensions are surrounded by casing parts 26 which define end walls for the casing. Sealing plates 31 to 34, together with a flexible seal 28 between the parts 26, prevent escape of the fluid.
