Abstract

1446867 Spray producers RIKER LABORATORIES INC 6 Aug 1973 [7 Aug 1972] 37257/73 Heading B2F [Also in Division F1] An atomiser comprises a liquid container 17 incorporating a reciprocating pump 24 of the oscillating piston type including diagonal seals 32 controlling an inlet 25 and discharge to an aperture 26, and an air pump comprising a cylinder 42 slidable on the container 17 and discharging air to an outlet 19 where it meets the liquid from the aperture 26 to discharge a spray to a nozzle 12. The cylinder 45 is connected to an actuator 36 for the piston 31 and includes cam surfaces for causing the piston to reciprocate and oscillate; the actuator is slidable in a bore 23 in the container and includes an air flow passage 41. The cylinder 45 is connected to an actuator sleeve 58 with lost motion and a spring 55 is disposed between flanges 56, 48 on the sleeve and cylinder. Spring loaded detents 63, 64 in a bore in the head of the cylinder 45 engage in slots 60, 61 in the sleeve 58 and in the initial operative position engage a shoulder 68 on the housing 50. Pressure on the head 59 of the sleeve 58 first compresses the spring 55 until the upper ends of the slots 60, 61 release the detents 63, 64, thereafter the pump and compressor pistons are actuated.
