Abstract

1446746 Strap tensioning tool PAUL HELLERMANN GmbH 30 Nov 1973 [8 Jan 1973] 55631/73 Heading F2G A tool for tensioning a tape around an object and for cutting off surplus tape when a pre-set tension is reached and after the tape has been connected has a tensioning mechanism comprising a pull rod 9 with a recess 10, a slide member 14 movable longitudinally of the rod and carrying a runner or roller 11 which is movable transversely of the rod and is urged against the recessed edge of the rod 9 and a hand lever 4 which draws the pull rod 9 in a first portion of travel and actuates a cutter in a further portion of travel. The tape passes through a slit 6 and is gripped by a gripper 7 on a draw bar 8 linked to the pull rod 9. When the hand lever 4 is rotated towards the handle 2 about a pivot 3, a roller 28 pushes a shift lever 25 to rotate it about a pivot 41 against the force of a return spring 27. The shift lever, pivoted to the slide 14 on pins 24, moves the slide and a tensioning elbow 16 which is pivoted to the slide 15 and carries the runner 11. The runner 11 thus entrains the pull rod 9 by engagement with the recess 10 and moves it to tension the tape. The force with which the runner 11 engages the recess 10 is pre-set by an adjustable compression spring arrangement 17-21 acting against one limb of the elbow 16. When the pre-set tension is reached, after several movements of the lever 4 if necessary, the runner is displaced from the recess 10 and the pull-rod remains in position. An arm 33 is then actuated by a pin 44 in a slot 45 in a control member 32 to operate a knife 35 which cuts off surplus tape. The tape is joined by a lock member automatically and independently of the tool.
