Abstract
852,269. Buckle threading apparatus. SCOVILL MANUFACTURING CO. Feb. 11, .1959 [Dec. 17, 1958], No. 4777/59. Class 43 Buckle threading apparatus has means for transferring an apertured buckle from a buckle feed station to a buckle threading station, means for releasably holding the apertured buckle in position for the threading thereof, means for advancing a length of tape from a supply thereof to a position at one side of the buckle, means for threading the tape length through the apertures of the buckle, the tape advancing means including means for clamping the tape during the threading thereof. The apparatus is for use with buckles having three eyelets 62, 64, 66 and comprises clamping jaws 246, 252 for withdrawing tape from a supply and for clamping one end while a first threader 386, second threader 422 and third threader 454 loops 492 and knives operate to produce loops L1 and L2 in a buckle fed to the threading station the operation being controlled automatically by cams mounted on a shaft 40 driven by a motor 26. The invention consists of improvements in the apparatus described in Specification 838,034. The clamping jaws are opened and withdrawn at the completion of the threading by a cam operated lever engaging a pin 342 between upstanding lugs on a gripper operating arm 344 which has a depending portion along its length for engaging a roller on the upper gripper jaw. The jaws are adjustably positioned in a slideway by rotating an opposite threaded screw 312 and the length of stroke of the jaws is adjusted by a screw in a slot in a link between the slideway and cam. The grooved cams mounted on the shaft 40 have a cut out 326 continuous with a groove 327 providing a passageway for the roller 332 of the follower arm, to permit removal of the arm from the cam. The follower arm comprises forked members in sliding engagement with a guide shoe 172 pivotally mounted on the shaft, to permit the use of smaller linkage arms. The buckle in threading position has one rib, supported in a slot 134 in an extension 130 of the buckle slideway and a central rib supported by a support element 140 on a support member 136 mounted on the slideway carrying also a support element 142 for one outer rib the other outer rib being supported by a support 144 mounted on threader bracket 146. The tape passes through an adjustable slot 692 the width of which is varied by upper and lower plastic guide members, the width of the tape guideway is also varied by adjusting the position of the tape guide members on the tape feed plate. The threaded buckles are discharged to a bin 698 by sliding along a slide wave 696 secured to the buckle support element 140. To adjust the length of movement of looper mechanism 492, a cam link 524 and looper rod 502 are adjustably connected in a slot in a block member. The third threader 454 is removably secured to the lower end of a reciprocating rod 456.
