Abstract
1416282 Strapping tools AMP Inc 28 Jan 1974 [21 Feb 1973] 03773/74 Heading F2G A tool for tensioning a flexible strap around a bundle of wires, the strap having a head and a tail adapted to pass through the head, comprises a pair of parallel elongate body members 12, 14 each having a handle 16, 18 at a rear end, and slidably supported thereon an assembly 46 normally biased by a spring 68 towards the forward ends of the body members 12, 14, the assembly 46 having pivotally mounted thereon on a pin 64, a pawl 56 with a serrated surface 60 to grip the tail of a strap inserted between it and a pressure plate 66 on the assembly 46, handles 50 on the assembly allowing it to be gripped in a user's hand and moved rearwardly against the bias of the spring 68 to tension a strap the head of which is held against a plate 36 secured to an anvil 34 on the member 14 and the tail of which passes through a slot 38 in the plate 36 and is gripped by the pawl 56. Pins 24, 26 hold the body members 12, 14 together and dimples 49, 52 on the assembly 46 guide its sliding movement on the body members and retain it in position. A spring 62 normally biases the serrated surface 60 against the pressure plate 66, but when the assembly 46 is located at the forward ends of the members 12, 14 the pawl 56 engages the pin 24 and pushes the pawl to leave a space between it and the plate 66 to facilitate entry of the tail of the strip. After tensioning of the strap the tail is located against a deflector plate 74 on the assembly 46 and the recess strap is severed by gripping the handle 40 of a cutter lever 30, pivotally mounted on the pin 24 between the body members 12, 14 and provided with a cutting edge 44 movable over the slot 38 in the plate 36.
