1446202 Tunnel linings LEONARD FAIRCLOUGH Ltd 21 Nov 1973 [8 Jan 1973] 970/73 Heading E1F A tunnel lining ring is assembled from a plurality of preformed segments including a number of segments 12A having a substantially smooth inner surface, and a number of segments 12c having an inner surface with recesses 25 to facilitate bolting together of adjacent segments. The lining shown has recessed upper segments 12c, a smooth lower segment 12A, and hybrid side segments 12B, these last-mentioned segments being partly smooth and partly recessed. The side edges of abutting smooth segments or smooth parts are connected by pins or tubes 30. The leading and trailing edges of the smooth segments 12A are provided with grooves (47) and corresponding projections (45), Fig. 4 (not shown). The hybrid segments are provided with these grooves and projections along one third of their length enabling adjacent rings to be angularly displaced. This angular displacement, which is preferably 24‹, enables bolts of one ring to engage in threaded recesses 33 of a hybrid segment of an adjacent ring. Passages 40 for injecting filling material between the lining and the ground are provided, as are handling recesses 43 in the smooth and hybrid segments, and there are peripheral caulking recesses 41.
