Abstract

1445235 Plywood CHEMOTHERN BONDING Inc 24 Jan 1975 [22 Feb 1974 8 May 1974] 8086/74 and 20228/74 Heading B5L [Also in Division C3] Wood is bonded together by means of an adhesive produced by heating lignocellulose, a phenol and an acid able to hydrolyse polysaccharides. In examples the adhesive is made by reacting powders from Douglas fir and Gaboon wood with sulphuric acid, phenol and water. In Example III, a 3-ply plywood of Douglas fir is made by hot pressing the adhesive coated veneers. In Examples IV and V the adhesive mixed with Douglas fir shavings and Gaboon wood particles is hot pressed to give particle boards. In some cases the lignocellulose may be left out of the adhesive and the acid and phenol coated on to the wood to be glued. Heating then gives an adhesive layer, as the wood lignocellulose reacts.
