Abstract

1353754 Forms of wood BOHEMIA Inc 22 April 1971 10858/71 Heading B5L [Also in Divisions D1 and C3] Cellulosic materials such as plywood, hardboard, softboard, chipboard, flakeboard and wallboard, are bonded by a thermosetting resin adhesive having an extender which comprises finely ground Douglas fir bark having a wax content not exceeding 3%. The resin may be phenol-formaldehyde, melamine formaldehyde or urea-formaldehyde. The adhesive composition may additionally contain: what flour, sodium hydroxide, soda ash and water, optionally together with hardening agents and dyes. Three-or five-ply Douglas fir panels are made up by pressing the adhesive coated panels at 285‹ F. and 175 p.s.i. for 4 to 4¢ minutes and between 3 and 30 minutes after assembling the panels. The required wax content of the extender is obtained by solvent extraction of the raw bark.
