Abstract

1470092 Plywood CANADIAN PATENTS & DEVELOPMENT Ltd 5 March 1974 [6 March 1973] 9740/74 Heading B5L [Also in Divisions C2 and C3] Plywood is made by using as adhesive binder a composition comprising an aqueous lignin sulphonate liquor having a pH of not more than 2 when measured as a 50% solids solution of lignin sulphonate, or a product which has been formed by drying such a liquor, followed by hot pressing. In Example 16, spent sulphite liquor is treated with concentrated sulphuric acid to give a pH of 0À73, filtered to remove precipitate and spread over Douglas fir and poplar veneers which are then hot-pressed for 5 minutes at 350‹ F. and 150 p.s.i. to produce two panels of 3-ply plywood.
