Abstract

1504128 Dyeing and sizing paper IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 11 June 1975 [17 June 1974] 26736/74 Heading D1B [Also in Division C3] A surface sizing-dyeing composition for paper giving improved wet fastness to the dyed and sized paper comprises (i) a low viscosity sodium carboxymethyl cellulose or (ii) modified or unmodified starch, (iii) alum and (iv) a carboxylic acid group-containing compound consisting of rosin, maleinised rosin, an alkali metal soap or maleinised petroleum resin in the proportions of 0.8 to 2.0 of (i) or 1.0-4.0 of (ii), 0.8-0.12 of (iii) and 0.08 to 0.12 of (iv) by weight, the total concentration of these components being from 10.0 to 1.0 wt. %. The composition may contain an acid or direct dyestuff or a basic dyestuff, the composition having an acid pH.
