Abstract
1445130 Coating apparatus SOC ELETTROTECNICA CHIMICA ITALIANA SpA 25 Sept 1973 [27 Sept 1972] 44920/73 Heading D1L A coating liquid containing ferromagnetic particles is deposited on a moving inert support in metered amounts by magnetic attraction of a magnet and the deposited coating evenly spread over the support by passing the latter through a magnetic field between the poles of a magnet in which the lines of flux are parallel to the direction of movement of the support. A single magnet e.g. a horseshoe magnet, may be used for both process steps. Apparatus for effecting the method is claimed and is illustrated with reference to Figures wherein a support 10 (Fig. I) runs past a gap 12 between the poles of a magnet 13. A doctor blade 15 rests along a generating line of a cylinder 14 spaced from the surface of the support and contains a coating liquid in the cavity 16. The coating liquid forms rings around the cylinder 14 and under the effect of the magnetic field, drops of coating are deposited on the support and then spread by the magnetic field. In Fig. 3 (not shown) a tub 20 also spaced from the support is used in place of cylinder and doctor blade, to contain the coating liquid.
