Abstract

144,476. Pyke, E. J. June 16, 1919. Locking while standing.-An appliance for locking a motor-vehicle while standing comprises a sliding bolt forming the plunger of a solenoid and adapted to lock the steering pillar or other moving part and an electrical circuit including a disarrangeable switch with secret contacts. As applied to the steering column, the plunger 5, Fig. 3, of the solenoid 6 engages a recess in a collar on the shaft 3 of the steering mechanism to lock the vehicle, a sliding bolt 12 controlled from the handle bar retaining the plunger in the released position when required. The electric circuit comprises a dash-board switch 24, Fig. 5, battery 22. fuse 23, solenoid 6, and two switches with circularly arranged electrically connected contacts 18 and an isolated contact 19, rotary contact arms 20 also being provided. The arrangement is such that when the steering gear is locked and the circular switches disarranged, the closing of the dash-board switch blowe the fuse. When the isolater contacts are put in circuit the solenoid can be operated. The circular switches are combined in one casing. The solenoid plunger may engage in a Bowden-wire-controlled intentally toothed sleeve adapted to lock a toothed ring on the steering shaft to a fixed toothed ring.
