Abstract
1444225 Lining pipes ENGLISH CLAYS LOVERING POCHIN & CO Ltd 13 Sept 1973 [14 Sept 1972] 42785/72 Heading B2E [Also in Division F2] A method of lining a pipe or other tubular article with a thermosetting synthetic plastics material comprises arranging the pipe with its longitudinal axis inclined to the horizontal, delivering the material in liquid form into an upper part of the pipe so that it flows along a length of the pipe, the pipe being held stationary while the material is introduced, shifting the pipe to a position in which its longitudinal axis is horizontal and spinning the pipe about its longitudinal axis until the material has set. The liquid material is introduced into the pipe at a constant rate and the angle of inclination is such that the material first introduced into the pipe flows to a predetermined lower part of the pipe in the same time for completing the introduction of the amount of liquid required to line the pipe. The pipe may have end flanges and covers may be fitted to the flanges to prevent the liquid material flowing out of the pipe during spinning. The covers may be spaced from the flanges to provide annular spaces into which the material may flow so that the lining extends radially at each end of the pipe, (Fig. 3, not shown). The pipe may be of metal e.g. steel which is first cleaned and then coated with a suitable bonding agent. The lining material may be a polyurethane. The pipes may be spun by means of driven rollers. To remove any entrained air bubbles in the lining material a blast of hot air may be 'blown through the pipes.
